Feb. 23, 2010—Area youth groups, churches and junior high students are invited to “Rebel!” an overnight lock-in to gather and worship in union at Concordia University Chicago, March 26-27.
Concordia University Chicago will host the event from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. at the Koehneke Community Center on Concordia’s campus, 7400 Augusta St., River Forest. The fee is $7 per student, with no charge for chaperone attendance. Church affiliation is not required.
Facilitated by Concordia Youth Ministry (CYM) and led by Concordia-Chicago students, the lock-in program is designed to help junior high students focus on their relationships with God. Activities include Bible studies, games, entertainment, food, and fellowship with peers.
The “Rebel” theme for the program will focus on "learning to rebel against the world's sinful expectations by following the ultimate rebel, Jesus Christ,” said Laura Blodgett, Concordia senior, CYM leader and program chair.
"Our hope is that we can not only serve many churches through this, but that we can provide a way for the youth of the churches to connect with those of other churches while we learn more about Christ’s love,” Blodgett said.
Other Concordia-Chicago student leaders for the event are Iris Castellanos of Aurora, Ill.; Karin Nalefski of Bloomington, Ill.; Naomi Hite of Brookfield, Ill.; Megan Forster of Buckley, Ill.; David Rivera of Chicago; Laura Blodgett of Cleveland, Ohio; Kayleigh Belvery of East Peoria, Ill.; Ashley Muehl of Fort Wayne, Ind.; John Gehm of Frankenmuth, Mich.; Colleen Weems of Oak Lawn, Ill.; Ronald Roman of Puerto Rico; Janine Bolling of Queens, NY; Katie Sterling of Schaumburg, Ill.; Adam Rodriguez of Seymour, Ind.; Melissa Gould and Josh Rusnak of St. Louis, Mo.; Ashley Jensema and Kyla Stigdon.
Space at the lock-in is limited. Registration deadline is March 5. Church groups are asked to provide a chaperone for every ten students in their groups. An insurance waiver form and emergency medical information form for each participating student must be completed by a parent or guardian, and submitted by the start of the event along with the $7 registration fee.
Students may be dropped off at the Koehneke Community Center, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on March 26; and picked up Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Free, handicapped-accessible parking is available in the University’s parking structure on Bonnie Brae Street.
