Campus Security
Concordia University Chicago continuously strives for a safe and secure campus. It is our top priority to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff.
And to that end, we provide the following:
- We have a full-time, professionally staffed campus security force on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which maintains a close working relationship with the River Forest Police Department. They are on dispatch 24/7 and respond to emergency calls.
- Campus Security participates in disaster training scenarios with the village fire and police departments.
- Average response time for River Forest Police Department units is roughly 3 minutes. The department is backed up by Cook County and State Police units should the need arise.
- Campus Security has 2 or 3 patrolman on-duty at all times, with 2 more on-call with voice pagers, as well as 2 supervisors living directly across from campus who are on-call 24 hours.
- There are 25 emergency call boxes in various locations throughout campus. The call boxes are dispatched to Campus Security, which responds immediately to all calls.
- The University has a comprehensive “Crisis Plan,” in which scenarios of potential emergency situations are addressed. The plan is assessed periodically. All Resident Directors and Resident Assistants, as well as University Administration are knowledgeable of these procedures.
- The cell phone communication system is used to disseminate urgent information to all students, faculty and staff including off campus undergraduate and graduate students.
- The University asks that students, faculty, and staff report suspicious persons and/or activities to Campus Security.
- Students residing in campus residence halls are instructed to always keep locked doors shut, and to not let in anyone who is not accompanied by a resident.
- The University offers counseling services through the Schmieding Center, located on the 2nd floor of the West Annex. The center can be reached by calling 708-209-3145, and is available to all community members. All that would benefit from the center are encouraged to contact the center.
The Concordia Security Department (CSD) Office is Room 140 in Addison Hall, ext. 3233; CSD may also be reached through Post Office Box 4A or by dialing "0" on any campus phone. Service provided by the campus security department for all students, staff, and visitors include:
- Safety Escorts (an officer will walk with you between locations on-campus)*
- Jump Start for disabled vechicles*
- Lock-out service for offices and other areas on campus*
- Record and investigate reports of theft, vandalism, and injury on-campus, as well as liason with River Forest Police and EMS services.*
- Theft and Fire prevention information*
- Community Awareness activities
- Parking Permits and vehicle registration
In emergencies, dial "911" on any campus phone and the Dispatch Officer will dispatch a security officer and coordinate police, fire, or ambulance services as needed. Please do not use a cell phone for on-campus emergencies as this could significantly delay or complicate the arrival of emergency services to your location or the location of the emergency.
* Services available 24/7, year-round
